MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – The Hampton University women’s golf team finished ninth in the University of Richmond Spider Fall Invitational, held Monday and Tuesday at the par-72 Independence Golf Course, shooting a 60-over 636 (320-316).
Iman Ellis (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) led the Lady Pirates, finishing in a four-way tie for 12th after firing a 9-over 153 (77-76), while Kayla Williams shot a 15-over 159 (80-79) to finish in a six-way tie for 33rd.
Dionne West (Springdale, Md.) and
Sydnee Mack (Las Vegas, Nev.) each finished in a tie for 44th with an 18-over 162; West shot consecutive rounds of 81, while Mack went 82-80.
Ellis had Hampton’s two best rounds in the tournament.
Jessi Mitchell (Fayetteville, Ga.) fired a 101 in Monday’s first round before being disqualified on Tuesday.
Richmond’s Carolina Lovette won the individual title in a playoff over Longwood’s Kameron Carter; Lovette fired a 2-over 146 (74-72) in regulation, as did Carter (75-71). Maryland won the team championship with a 26-over 602 (303-299).
