VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Hampton University senior punter Jahmal Blanchard was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Blanchard (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) recorded five punts for 212 yards – an average of 42.4 yards per kick – in Saturday's 25-0 win over Florida A&M. He placed one kick inside the 20-yard line and recorded a touchback. Blanchard also recorded 299 yards on five kickoffs in the victory.
Oliver “Tre” Young of South Carolina State was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Terrell Whitehead of Norfolk State was named Defensive Player of the Week. Kory Kowalski of Bethune-Cookman was named MEAC Rookie of the Week, and Norfolk State's Markeece Preston was named Offensive Lineman of the Week.
