HAMPTON, Va. -- Hampton University junior Na-Hyun Baek was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Year for the second year in a row on Thursday, as voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors.
Baek (Seoul, Korea) finished the 2008-09 season with an overall record of 11-2 and 5-0 in conference in singles. In doubles play, she was 8-4 and 4-0 in the conference. Baek has captured wins against North Carolina A&T, Bethune-Cookman, South Carolina State, Florida A&M, Winston-Salem State, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Delaware State, Howard, Coppin State and Morgan State this season.
Jovanna Sangria (Long Beach, Calif.) was selected to the second team after finishing the 2008-09 season with an 8-5 overall and 5-0 MEAC singles record. Sangria and Baek were doubles partners this season, going 8-4 and 4-0 in conference.
South Carolina State’s Aniko Kiss was selected as the Rookie of the Year with a 12-3 singles record and 4-0 mark in the conference.
Bethune -Cookman coach Trey Bogue was selected as Coach of the Year.
The 2009 MEAC Tennis Championships will be held Friday-Sunday in Raleigh, N.C.
