GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Six members each from the Hampton University men’s and women’s track & field teams will travel to the campus of North Carolina A&T State University for the 2009 NCAA Division I Outdoor East Regional, which will be held Friday and Saturday at Irwin Belk Track.

Reggie Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.) and Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.) will each compete in three events in Greensboro, taking part in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 4x100-meter relay. Dixon ran a season-best 10.31 in the 100-meter dash in the preliminaries at the MEAC Championships, while also running a 20.71 in the 200-meter dash to take the MEAC title.

Anderson qualified for the 200-meter dash with a 21.30 at the MEAC Championships, while also reaching qualification in the 100-meter dash with a 10.55 May 17 in the IC4A Outdoor Championships. Both Dixon and Anderson qualified in the 4x100-meter relay with a 40.01 at the MEAC Championships.

Devon Brown (Laurel, Md.) and Kevin Teel (Bowie, Md.) were also on that relay team, meaning they will also make the trip to Greensboro.

Predist Walker (Suffolk, Va.) will compete in two events – the 110-meter hurdles and the long jump. Walker reached NCAA regional qualification in the 110-meter hurdles several times on the season, most recently with a 13.96 in the IC4A Championships. His season-best mark of 7.41 meters in the long jump came at the Morgan State Legacy Meet on April 18.

Brandon Jones (Virginia Beach, Va.) jumped 15.57 meters in the triple jump at the Morgan State Legacy Meet to establish a MEAC best this season, while also reaching NCAA regional qualification.

Racquel Vassell (Irvington, N.J.) and Francena McCorory (Hampton, Va.) will each compete in three events for the Lady Pirates. Vassell will run in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 4x100-meter relay, while McCorory will compete in the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash and 4x100-meter relay.

Vassell ran a season-best 11.59 in the preliminary heats at the MEAC Championships, to go along with a 23.58 in the 200-meter dash in that same meet. McCorory established season bests in the 200-meter dash (23.23) and 400-meter dash (51.75) at the MEAC Championships, winning both events and earning the right to compete for an NCAA outdoor title.

McCorory won the 400-meter dash title at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14 with a time of 51.54.

McCorory and Vassell helped the 4x100-meter relay team record a season-best 45.16 at the Raleigh Relays on March 28. Petrice Richards (Manchester, Jamaica) and Septima Glenn (Greer, S.C.) were also on that team, so they will also make the trip to Greensboro.

Michelle Smith (Teaneck, N.J.) qualified in the 100-meter hurdles by running a 13.67 in the preliminary heats at the ECAC Outdoor Championships on May 16 in Princeton, N.J.

Krystle Medlin (Raleigh, N.C.) will run in the 5,000-meter run, despite not recording a time that met NCAA regional qualifications. Medlin ran an 18:15.21 in that race at the MEAC Championships to win the event, and that title allowed her to compete in the NCAA East Regional.

Top performers from the weekend will advance to the 2009 NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, which will be held June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
