GREENSBORO, N.C. – Francena McCorory and Reggie Dixon both qualified for the 2009 NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships on Saturday in the NCAA East Regional at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.
McCorory (Hampton, Va.) won the 400-meter dash in 52.00, after running a 53.02 in the preliminary heats. McCorory, who holds the nation’s second-best time in the 400-meter dash, will look to add an NCAA outdoor title to the indoor crown she won back in March.
Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.) ran a 10.21 in the 100-meter dash, finishing third and reaching NCAA qualification. He finished fifth in the preliminary heats, running a 10.37. The sophomore finished 10th in the 200-meter dash in the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.
Predist Walker (Suffolk, Va.) finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a 13.96, just missing automatic qualification into the NCAA meet. The Pirates’ 4x100-meter relay team – Dixon,
Kevin Teel (Bowie, Md.),
Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.) and
Brandon Jones (Virginia Beach, Va.) -- ran a 39.93 in the finals to come in fifth.
The top five individual finishers and top three relay teams automatically qualified for the 2009 NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, which will be held in Fayetteville, Ark. June 10-13.
