SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – The Hampton University women’s golf team opened the fall 2009 golf season by finishing ninth over the weekend at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate at Willard Byrd Golf Course, firing a 108-over 972 (314-331-327) over the course of Saturday and Sunday.
Iman Ellis led the Lady Pirates, firing a 14-over 230 (77-75-78) to finish in a tie for 14th. Her second-round 75 was the top round of the tournament for Hampton. Dionne West came in a tie for 31st after shooting a 20-over 236 (76-84-76), while Sydnee Mack’s 76-85-83 was good enough for a 28-over 244 and a tie for 43rd.
Haley Hill finished 48th with a 55-over 271 (94-87-90), while Jessi Mitchell shot 85-94-95 to finish with a 58-over 274 to finish 49th.
Josefine Sundh of Western Carolina won the individual title by shooting an even-par 216 (71-72-73). Western Carolina, with a 33-over 897 (293-302-302) won the team title by a stroke over Longwood University.
