NORFOLK, Va. – Three members of the Hampton University football team earned weekly Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) honors, the conference office announced on Monday.
Senior quarterback
David Legree (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was named Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in Hampton's 23-17 win over Florida A&M on Thursday night, while sophomore offensive lineman
Vincent Harper (Belle Glade, Fla.) was named Offensive Lineman of the Week and junior kicker
Taurean Durham (Uniondale, N.Y.) was named Co-Special Teams Player of the Week.
Legree threw for a season-high 268 yards and two touchdowns against the Rattlers on ESPNU, going 27-for-39 in the air. He also had nine carries for 23 yards on the ground for the Pirates (2-0, 1-0 MEAC), and he currently sits sixth in the MEAC in passing, averaging 183.5 yards per game.
Harper earned Offensive Lineman of the Week honors for the second straight week after aiding a Pirates offensive line that helped Hampton amass 427 yards of total offense – 159 of which came on the ground against FAMU.
Durham nailed all three of his field goals Thursday night, including a season-long 34-yard strike, to go along with both extra-point attempts. Durham accounted for 11 of Hampton's 23 points.
Dominique Ellis of South Carolina State was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, while Howard's Greg McGhee was named Rookie of the Week. Norfolk State's Ryan Estep shared Special Teams Player of the Week honors with Durham.
The Pirates will return to action on Saturday, when they head to Norfolk, Va. to take on Old Dominion (2-0) at Foreman Field at S.B.
