HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University Department of Athletics has named
Veronica Johnson the new Director of Athletic Performance, Director of Athletics Keshia Campbell has announced.
Johnson has spent the last two years as strength and conditioning coach with the athletic department, where she was primarily responsible for developing workout routines and training regimens for student-athletes.
“She will be responsible for the oversight of the Strength & Conditioning activities working cohesively with staff, coaches and student-athletes,” said Campbell. “Her commitment to loyalty and her unyielding work ethic to the overall success of our student-athletes has earned her this great opportunity.”
A graduate of Barton College, where she received her degree in Fitness Management, Johnson played basketball at Barton and was a team captain her senior year. Prior to Barton, Johnson was a point guard for Hagerstown JUCO for two years – where was a team captain and team MVP.
She currently holds the JUCO record for 3-pointers in a game, hitting nine of 10.
Johnson holds NASM (national Academy of Sports Medicine) certification. After graduating from Barton, she was the top female personal trainer for three years at Bally Total Fitness.
In her spare time, Johnson likes to play basketball.
