HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University junior DeVonte' Hawkins and sophomore
Vendula Strakova were named HU Athletes of the Week on Monday.
Hawkins (Knoxville, Tenn.) had a team-high 16 tackles – including five solo stops – in Saturday's 45-7 loss to Old Dominion. He also recorded a tackle for a loss, totaling two yards.
So far this season, Hawkins leads the team in tackles with 35.
Strakova (Brno, Czech Republic) was named to the All-Tournament Team at the McNeese State big Daddy's Invitational, after averaging 4.59 kills per set and 2.24 digs per set in four matches. She had 22 kills and 14 digs in her Hampton debut against Bethune-Cookman, hitting .354.
She then had 30 kills and hit .266 against Baylor in an epic five-set battle, and she hit .293 for the weekend, while adding nine service aces in 17 sets of action.
