DOVER, DEL. – The Hampton University cross country teams participated Saturday in the Delaware State University Farm Run Invite and both teams finished second in seven-team races.
For the Lady Pirates, they placed all five scoring runners inside the top ten to finish with 34 points to take second place four points behind University of Maryland Eastern Shore.  Sophomore 
Pollyanna Velasco was once again the top finisher for Hampton covering the 5k course at the Delaware Outreach & Research Center in 19:46.7 to take third place. 
A pair of freshmen finished sixth and seventh for Hampton as 
Alycia Higgins was sixth in 19:58.0, while 
Asia Johnson was seventh in 20:05.5.  Senior 
Amanda Delacruz was eighth in 20:21.7 and junior 
Kayla Key took tenth in 20:49.6
The men, who ran their first meet of the 2016 season, also finished second to UMES as they amassed 67 points to the winners 16.  Freshman 
Geoffrey McCullough finished fifth over the 8k course in 26:46.5 to lead the Pirates.  Junior 
Stanley Davis finished tenth in 27:18.2 to round out the top ten finishers for Hampton.

Tayvon Burris was third for Hampton finishing in 13
th place in 28:25.0, while junior 
Eric Ellis was 16
th (29:22.2) and freshman 
Khalil Gary was 23
rd (31:42.9).
Both Hampton teams will return to action on October 1 at the Robert Shumake HBCU Challenge in Cary, N.C.
