NORFOLK, Va. –
Lena Washington recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs as Hampton defeated Norfolk State 25-14, 25-18, 25-18 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division matchup Friday night at Gill Gymnasium.
With the win Hampton goes to 9-14 overall and 4-3 in the MEAC, while Norfolk State drops to 3-17 overall and 0-6 in MEAC action.
Reeana Richardson just missed a double-double with 10 kills and eight digs, while
Victoria Jenifer and
Kelci Dixon added four kills apiece.
The first set saw Hampton and Norfolk State tied at 7-all before the Lady Pirates reeled off seven straight points to start a 16-5 run to take the first set 25-14.
Hampton kept working margins throughout the last two sets taking both 25-18 to snap a three-match losing streak to Norfolk State. The last win came Oct. 16, 2015 in a 3-2 victory at Gill Gymnasium.
Lena Reed-Petracek had 23 assists and seven digs to go with three service aces, while
Maja Petronijevic had 17 digs and seven assists.
Hampton returns to action on October 27 with a match at Morgan State in Baltimore.
