The Hampton University women's indoor track and field team saw action in a pair of meets in the state of Virginia this weekend participating at the VMI Keydet Invitational and the Captains Combined at Christopher Newport.
At VMI, the Lady Pirates came in tenth place and had Eusila Chepkemei take top ten finishes in three events. She ran to a third place finish in the 800 meters (2:16.42), tenth in the mile (5:09.16) and ran leadoff on the fourth place distance medley relay team in 12:42.13.
Janet Okeago took a pair of top eight finishes coming in fifth in the 5000 (18:14.76) and eighth in the 3000 (10:24.64).Â
Autumn Smith finished seventh in the 60 hurdles in 8.86 and ran the second leg in the distance medley relay team.
At CNU,
Corneisha Mitchell took a pair of first place finishes in the weight events to lead the Lady Pirates. In the shot put she won with a toss of 43-10, while in the weight throw she won with a toss of 52-4.75.Â
Tamadj Fisher took first in the high jump with a leap of 5-3.25 to lead a Hampton 1-2-3-4 finish in the event.Â
Oasya Taylor was second (5-1.25),
Kaitlin Scott was third in the same height while
Sydney Davis took fourth in 4-11.5.
Scott won the pentathlon as Hampton took five of the top six spots with a total of 3,275 points.Â
Crystal Eley was second with 3,037 points.
Hampton returns to action next weekend with the first of two straight trips to Liberty University for the Liberty Kickoff on Jan. 26-27.
