BALANCED LADY PIRATES CRUISE AT COPPIN STATE

BALTIMORE, MD. – Senior Jephany Brown matched her career high with 20 points to lead four in double figures on Monday night as Hampton cruised to an 83-48 win at Coppin State.

Hampton (12-13/8-4 MEAC) opened the game scoring the first nine points as a Mikayla Sayle jumper put Hampton up 9-0 with 6:25 left in the first.  The lead grew to 19-6 with 2:55 remaining as K'lynn Willis hit a pair of free throws. 

Coppin State scored seven straight points to trim the margin to 19-13 on a jumper by Oluwadamilol Oloyede with 1:39 left.  Hampton held the Eagles to 26.3% shooting in the first quarter and 24.2% for the first half.

A quick 11-0 run to start the second quarter for Hampton saw Brown drain a pair of triples, one from Monnazjea Finney-Smith and a pair of Wilis free throws gave Hampton a 31-13 lead with 6:49 remaining in the half.

The lead grew to as much as 38 points with just under four minutes left on a layup by Mahaley Holit.  Her jumper with 1:18 remaining gave the final score of 83-48.
Finney-Smith was next in scoring for Hampton with 15 points, while Willis added 14, seven assists, five steals and no turnovers in 28 minutes, Sayle chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds.  On the night, Hampton was 30-of-66 from the floor (45.5%), 6-of-16 from 3-point land (37.5%), 17-of-24 from the foul line (70.8%).  They out-rebounded Coppin State 46-42 and forced 22 turnovers to only committing 11.

After a stretch of eight games in 17 days, the Lady Pirates return to the confines of the HU Convocation Center for a 4 pm tip against South Carolina State on Saturday.
