GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Hampton University track and field teams participated in the power-packed Florida Relays this weekend and came away with several top performances.
Highlighting the weekend was the men's 4x400 relay team who won their division of the race in 3:08.05. The grouping of Brenan Garrett,
Jerrick Powell,
Justin Beatty and
Jaelen Williams won the final by more than a second over Georgia Tech (3:09.21) and Rutgers (3:10.82).
Williams also had a standout performance individually as he took second in the 400 hurdles running 50.73. That was his first race in the 400 hurdles this year after earning All-American honors last season as a freshman. Â
Tayvon Burris ran the fastest time in the MEAC this season with a 1:49.99 in the 800 meters.
On the women's side, the sprint medley relay team of
Meshala Morton,
Mallory Pitchford,
Sashana Hinds and Eusila Chepkemei took third in 3:52.54.  The 4x200 quartet of Morton, Hinds, Asha Copeland and Pitchford took 12th in 1:37.40.
Both teams will be in Williamsburg next weekend participating in the Colonial Relays at Zable Stadium.
