FAIRFAX, Va. – Hampton's men's tennis team started its final stretch of matches on Wednesday dropping a 7-0 decision to George Mason University in Fairfax.
In doubles, Hampton pushed the Patriots at the top two spots dropping tightly contested 7-6 (10-8) and 7-5 matches at lines one and two respectively.
Matthew Foster-Estwick and
Davy Van Geerke dropped the tiebreaker at line one, while the tandem of
Fedor Shirin and
Peter Odegbami fell 7-5 at line two.
Singles saw Hampton fall in a pair of three-set matches at lines three and four. Van Geerke won the opening set at line three 7-6, but fell 6-4, 6-2 to Jakob Nielsen at line three.
Charles Hudson took the middle set in a tiebreaker 7-6, but lost 6-2 and 6-4 to Pally Ray at line four.
Hampton (1-10) goes back into MEAC action on Thursday facing Norfolk State at 4pm in Norfolk.
