TIME RAN OUT FOR PIRATES IN 60-61 LOSS TO COPPIN STATE

BALTIMORE, Md. – With 2.8 seconds remaining in regulation, Coppin State guard Vince Goldsberry connected on a jumper that gave the Eagles a key 61-60 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over the Pirates of Hampton University on Saturday in the Coppin Center on the campus of Coppin State University.

Vincent Simpson (Philadelphia, Pa.), who led Hampton with 10 points, missed the front end of a key one-and-one free throw opportunity with 15 seconds to play and the Pirates holding on to a 60-59 lead.
Following two timeouts, the Eagles worked the ball to Mike Buckley, who missed a 3-point attempt. Lenny Young rebounded the miss for the Eagles, but his lay-up attempt was blocked by Pirates forward Theo Smalling (
With the loss, the Pirates fall to 9-9 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while the Eagles improve to 4-15 overall and 2-4 in MEAC play.
The Eagles were 10-of-27 from the floor, shooting 37 percent and were led by Sam Coleman with 10 in the first half.
The first half of play saw five ties and five lead changes, but it was just enough for the Pirates to go into the break with a 31-30 lead over the Eagles.
The Eagles were 21-of-58 from the floor, shooting 36.2 percent on the night and grabbed 38 rebounds on the night and scored 10 fast break points. Coppin State was led by freshman Michael Harper, who scored a career-high 22 points on the night, making six 3-pointers for the Eagles in the victory. Also scoring in double figures for the Eagles were senior Tywain McKee, who scored 18, and Coleman, who finished the night with 12.
