LADY PIRATES OPEN MEAC BOWLING SLATE AT HOME

HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University bowling team opened Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play this past Saturday and Sunday at SpareTimes, competing in the MEAC Tournament #1.

The Lady Pirates went 3-2 in Friday's 5-person total pinfall action. After opening with a 865-990 loss to defending MEAC champion Delaware State, Hampton beat Morgan State 931-856 and Howard 953-805. Maryland-Eastern Shore then beat the Lady Pirates 1,099-1,033, before Hampton closed out Friday's play with a 828-794 win over Coppin State.

Freshman Rebecca Glazier (Newport News, Va.) led the Lady Pirates with 958 total pins on Friday – an average of 191.6 per game. She bowled a team-best 253 against Maryland-Eastern Shore. Jamie Zarnick (West Bloomfield, Mich.) had 953 total pins, bowling a 234 against UMES and a 222 against Morgan State.

Thanks to three games in the 200s – a 209 against Howard, a 207 against Morgan State and a 206 against UMES – Dara Martin (Oswego, Ill.) had 933 total pins. Jazzminn Richey-Obey (Lorain, Ohio) had 910 total pins, thanks to a 205 against Coppin State and a 202 against Delaware State.

The Lady Pirates went 2-3 in Saturday's baker total pinfall action, beating Morgan State and Coppin State, while falling to Delaware State, UMES and Howard. Hampton beat Morgan State 692-599, taking all four games, before falling 678-686 to Delaware State despite taking two of the four games. UMEs took three of four games in winning 725-656, before Hampton took two of four in beating Coppin State 574-555.

Hampton then fell to Howard 623-636.

The Lady Pirates (17-16, 5-5 MEAC) will return to action this Saturday and Sunday, when they travel to Dover, Del. for another MEAC North tournament.
