MATTOS SECLECTED FIRST TEAM AND ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Baek named MEAC Second Team

HAMPTON, Va. -- Freshman sensation Nelio Mattos was selected to the MEAC first team and Rookie of the Year for the 2008-09 season on Thursday. Mattos was 7-3 and 4-0 in the conference in singles play. He was also 7-3 and 4-0 in doubles action. 

Mattos (Ribeirao Preto, Brazil) has captured wins against Bethune-Cookman, Winston-Salem State, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Delaware State, Howard, Coppin State and Morgan State this season.

Teammate Sung-Kwon Baek (Pusan, Korea) was named Second Team All-MEAC after capturing a recode of 6-6 and 5-0 in conference play.

Player of the Year went to Ivan Milivojvic from South Carolina State, who had a 10-4 singles record on the season. His coach, Hardeep Judge, along with Trey Bogue from Bethune-Cookman, were named Co-Coaches of the Year.

The 2009 MEAC Tennis Championships will be held Friday-Sunday in Raleigh, N.C.
