CFL’S ROUGHRIDERS SIGN GILCHRIST

REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN – The Saskatchewan Roughriders, of the Canadian Football League, announced on Wednesday they signed former Hampton University wide receiver and kick return specialist Jeremy Gilchrist to a contract.

Financial details of the contract were not released.

Gilchrist, a native of nearby Virginia Beach, Va., played two seasons with the Pirates after transferring from Virginia Tech. It 2007, Gilchrist became the first Hampton wide receiver to record 1,000 receiving yards in a season, pulling in 1,043 yards and seven touchdowns. He was named First Team All-MEAC as a wide receiver and punt returner, as well as a Walter Camp All-American, after returning 20 punts for 380 yards and three touchdowns.

Gilchrist was named Second Team All-MEAC this past season, after catching 40 passes for 544 yards and two scores. He also ran back 28 punts, averaging 15.6 yards a return. He had three touchdown returns on the season, including a pair in a 44-7 win over North Carolina A&T.
