LADY PIRATES OPEN BOWLING SEASON STRONG

READING, Pa. – The Hampton University bowling team opened the 2010-11 season this past Saturday and Sunday in the Kutztown Fall Baker Invitational, finishing fourth in Saturday's Baker action before taking fifth on Sunday.

The Lady Pirates went 7-3 overall for the weekend.

In Saturday's Baker action, the Lady Pirates went 3-3. After defeating Lincoln (Pa.) 659-500, Hampton fell 615-683 to Adelphi, before responding with a 691-636 win over Long Island. Hampton then lost 598-658 to St. Francis (Pa.) and 706-736 to Kutztown, before beating St. Francis (Pa.) 670-652.

In all, the Lady Pirates had 3,939 total pins on Saturday, ranking them fourth among the 13 teams. Kutztown, which went 5-0 on Saturday, had the highest pin total with 4,456.

The Lady Pirates went a perfect 4-0 in Sunday's 5-person team match action, beating Howard (864-168), Cheyney (798-627), PSU-Altoona (905-711 and St. Peter's (854-831). Hampton had 4,273 total pins on Sunday, led by 948 from senior Jazzminn Richey-Obey (Lorain, Ohio), who finished 11th in Sunday's individual standings.

Richey-Obey bowled a team-best 230 against Howard, following that up with a 199 against PSU-Altoona and a 189 against Cheyney. She averaged 189.6 pins on Sunday.

Amy Chirico was the only other Lady Pirate to bowl a 200, rolling a 201 against St. Peter's.

Sophomore Rebecca Glazier (Newport News, Va.) had 885 total pins on Sunday for Hampton, bowling a 193 against PSU-Altoona. Glazier was 22nd in the individual standings, and she averaged a 177.0 on Sunday.

Kutztown again had the highest total pins on Sunday, racking up 4,859.

The Lady Pirates will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, when they co-host the Hampton Roads Invitational with Norfolk State in Chesapeake, Va.
