VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Hampton University senior
Vincent Simpson was named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) All-Conference Second Team, as announced by the conference office on Thursday.
This is the second straight year that
Simpson (Philadelphia, Pa.), a Preseason Second Team All-MEAC selection, was named Second Team All-MEAC.
Heading into Thursday's game against Howard, Simpson leads the Pirates (12-17, 7-8 MEAC) in scoring with an average of 13.8 points per game – the sixth-best average in the MEAC – and he has scored in double figures 22 times so far this season.
Simpson has scored at least 30 points twice this season; he matched his career high with 34 points on Nov. 28 at Wyoming, going 10-for-17 from the floor and 6-for-10 from behind the arc, before pouring in 31 points on Dec. 20 at Towson.
Simpson also averages 2.7 assists per game to lead the team, and sits sixth in the MEAC with 1.6 steals per game.
Morgan State swept the yearly awards, with Reggie Holmes taking Player of the Year honors. DeWayne Jackson was named MEAC Rookie of the Year, while Kevin Thompson was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Todd Bozeman was named MEAC Coach of the Year.
