BOWLING COMPETES IN GOLDEN BEAR INVITATIONAL

READING, Pa. – The Hampton University bowling team competed in the Golden Bear Invitational hosted
By Kutztown University on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Lady Pirates went 7-8 on the weekend.

Hampton opened play on Friday by going 5-1 in Baker total pinfall action. After opening with a 651-763 loss to Stephen F. Austin, the Lady Pirates rattled off a 730-710 win against St. Francis (Pa.). From there, Hampton beat Altoona 671-612, North Carolina Central 650-581, Morgan state 705-673 and Coppin State 744-584.

Saturday's 5-person team match play saw the Lady Pirates go 1-5, falling to Florida A&M 922-957 before beating Altoona 914-887. Hampton then fell 876-904 to Valparaiso, 889-941 to St. Francis (N.Y.), 881-1,002 to Vanderbilt and 835-872 to North Carolina Central.

Sophomore Rebecca Glazier (Newport News, Va.) tallied 1,150 total pins in six matches, averaging 191.7 pins per match. She bowled a 213 against Altoona and a 200 against Valpo.

Glazier was the only Lady Pirate to bowl in all six matches.

Freshman Pamela Kettler (Cincinnati, Ohio) averaged 170.2 pins over five matches, totaling 851 pins. She bowled a 215 against FAMU.

Senior Jazzminn Richey-Obey (Lorain, Ohio) bowled a team-best 228 against Vanderbilt.

The Lady Pirates went 1-2 in Sunday's Baker match play. They fell 3-4 to Florida A&M and 2-4 to St. Francis (Pa.) before beating Bethune-Cookman 4-2.

The Lady Pirates (38-38, 11-9 MEAC) will return to action on Feb. 12-13, when they travel to Dover, Del. to compete in the Capital Classic hosted by Delaware State.
