HAMPTON, Va. – The Pirates held their annual Meet the Pirates/Community Day in conjunction with Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple on this past Saturday at the North Hampton Community Center and on the campus of Hampton University.
Pirates Head Coach
Donovan Rose and selected players and coaches were in attendance at North Hampton Community Center to assist Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple with the dissemination of back to school items for the area youth.
“I felt like this was not only a great opportunity for the athletes, but also for the kids to get a chance to see them with their uniforms on,” said Rose. “I am glad that we had the chance to form a partnership with Rev. Barber and Sixth Mouth Zion Baptist Temple and what they are doing in the community.”
The Meet the Pirates events then continued back on the campus of Hampton University as fans, alumni, boosters and others visited the new looker room at Holland Hall and got a chance to meet and talk with the different players about this upcoming season.
The Pirates concluded the day by taking their annual team and individual head shots.
Hampton started back practice this morning as they conducted their first two-a-day at 5:45 a.m. in helmets and shoulder pads. The Pirates will have their second practice this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in full pads on the practice field behind Armstrong Stadium.
The Pirates continue to get ready for the season opener against Alabama A&M on Sept. 3 at Solider Field in Chicago, Ill with a kick off time set for 5 pm.
