HAMPTON, Va. – Despite the extreme heat on the first day of football camp, Hampton's Head Coach Donovan Rose was impressed with what he saw from the 2011 edition of the Pirates Football Team. The Pirates completed their first day of drills on Monday evening.
“Despite the heat I was really impressed with what I saw today,” said Pirates coach Don Rose.
“It was good to see everyone back and today makes everything official that football season is here and we are trying to get ready for that first game.”
Hampton's first game is less than 24 days away. They travel to the windy city to take on the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M in the Chicago Football Classic at Solider Field on Sept. 3.
Monday's workout for the Pirates consisted of some light drills and picked up on some of the schemes from the fall. “We didn't do a whole lot with the helmets and shorts, but they looked like a team that is ready to take this program to the next level,” stated Rose. “Things are finally coming together slowly but surely for us.”
The Pirates will return to today at 3:30 p.m. for a second day in shorts and helmets. On Saturday, Hampton will hold its annual Meet the Pirates/Picture Day at Armstrong Stadium and invite fans to come out and show their support.
