Keiara Avant were named HU Athletes of the Week on Monday, following their respective performances over the past week.
Schwartz (Orlando, Fla.) recorded yet another 100-yard rushing game – his seventh of the season – in the Pirates' season-ending 27-17 win at Morgan State on Saturday. He had 113 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries, averaging 3.9 yards per rush.
He also became the first Pirate since LaMarcus Coker in 2009 to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, ending 2012 with 1,043 yards on the ground. His 115.9 rushing yards per game lead the MEAC.
Avant (Chesapeake, Va.) was huge in three Lady Pirate wins this past week, recording double-doubles in all of them. After scoring 19 points and grabbing 16 rebounds at Mississippi State last Monday, Avant added 19 points and 10 rebounds on Friday against LSU – then poured in 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds on Sunday against Chicago State.
She also had a career-high seven steals against Chicago State. So far this season, Avant is averaging 22.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game as the Lady Pirates opened the season 4-0.
