NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton University senior running back
Jeremiah Schwartz was a First Team All-MEAC selection when the conference announced its 2012 postseason honors on Saturday. The postseason awards were voted on by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
Schwartz (Orlando, Fla.) became the first Pirate to rush for 1,000 yards in a season since LaMarcus Coker in 2009, carrying the ball 196 times over nine games for 1,043 yards and 11 touchdowns. He rushed for 100 yards seven times, including a career-high 201 yards against Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 29.
That total is the 11th-highest in a single game in Pirates history.
Schwartz led the MEAC in rushing this season, averaging 115.9 yards per game on the ground. He averaged 5.3 yards per carry.
Senior punter
Jordan Stovall (Elgin, S.C.) was a Second Team All-MEAC selection for the second straight year, averaging 39.8 yards per punt this season. He punted the ball into the opponents' 20-yard line 11 times, and he had five punts of 50 yards or longer.
His season-long punt of 62 yards came against Norfolk State.
Delaware State quarterback Nick Elko was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Year, while Keith Pough of Howard was named Defensive Player of the Year. Howard's Damon Gresham Chisholm was named the MEAC Rookie of the Year, and Bethune-Cookman's Terrance Hackney earned Offensive Lineman of the Year honors.
Brian Jenkins of MEAC champion Bethune-Cookman was named Coach of the Year.
