NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton University senior forward
Du'Vaughn Maxwell was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Year, the conference office announced on Monday when it unveiled its 2013-14 All-MEAC teams.
Maxwell (Manhattan, N.Y.) was also named First Team All-MEAC.
A six-time MEAC Defensive Player of the Week this season, Maxwell averaged 7.5 rebounds per game – ranking third in the MEAC – while also leading the conference in blocked shots with 3.2 per contest. He grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds twice: at Missouri State on Nov. 24 and against Maryland Eastern Shore on Feb. 10.
Maxwell grabbed double-digit rebounds seven times this season.
He also blocked a career-high seven shots on two occasions this season: against Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 7 and at Morgan State on Feb. 3. Maxwell blocked at least one shot in 26 of Hampton's 29 games during the regular season.
Maxwell had six double-doubles in the regular season, and he leads the Pirates (18-11, 13-3 MEAC) in scoring with 14.9 points per game. Maxwell is eighth in the MEAC in field goal percentage (.505) and 10th in the conference in scoring.
North Carolina Central's Jeremy Ingram was named MEAC Player of the Year, while Howard's James Daniel earned Rookie of the Year honors.
NCCU's Levelle Moton was named MEAC Coach of the Year.
