16-0 RUN LEADS PIRATES OVER BUILDERS

HAMPTON, Va. -- A 16-0 run over a three-minute span of the first half provided a working margin as Hampton defeated Apprentice School 95-61 on Tuesday night at the HU Convocation Center.
The Builders held an early 12-11 lead at the 15:05 mark after a jumper by Drew Walton. Hampton went on an 11-3 run to take a 22-15 lead on a three-point play by Jermaine Marrow with 11:23 remaining. Apprentice trimmed the deficit to three twice, the last being on a Tyrese Tingle jumper with 10:02 left to trail 24-21.
A free throw by Ben Stanley started the 16-0 run for Hampton with 9:48 remaining and was closed off by five straight points from Marrow to lead 40-21 with 6:42 left. The advantage grew to 57-28 on a layup by Marrow with three seconds left in the half.
In the second half the lead grew to as much as 38 points on a dunk by Edward Oliver-Hampton with 14:04 for a 76-38 advantage.
Marrow was the leading scorer for Hampton with 29 points and seven assists, while Davion Warren had 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists while going 8-for-8 from the floor. Joining them in double figures were Ben Stanley (15 points, three blocks) and Oliver-Hampton with 11 points.
The Pirates were 50% from the floor (34-of-68), 30.4% from 3-point range (7-of-23) and 74.1% from the foul line (20-of-27). Hampton outrebounded Apprentice School 63-30 as Amir Smith topped the Pirates with 11 rebounds.
Hampton now goes on the road to Williamsburg to face The College of William & Mary on Friday night at 7 pm.
