HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University volleyball coach
Brandon Duvall announced the 2019 Lady Pirates schedule on Wednesday, June 26 with a few new opponents, including an in-season exhibition with a new program.
The season opens over Labor Day weekend with consecutive nights of the "Battle of the Bay" as the Lady Pirates will host Norfolk State at 6 pm on August 30 and then will visit the Spartans on August 31.
September begins with the first of two trips to Bucknell University for tournament action. Over the weekend of Sept. 6-7, the Lady Pirates will face St. Peter's, St. Francis College of Brooklyn and Siena in the first Bucknell Volleyball Tournament.
Following that weekend will be a Tuesday night, September 10 exhibition match against the Monarchs of Old Dominion University in Holland Hall at 6 pm.  ODU started a volleyball team that will play its first season in 2020.
Hampton will then head up Route 13 to Princess Anne, Md. for the Henson Hawk Invitational over the weekend of September 13-14 when they'll face Robert Morris, the host UMES and Rider.
The second trip to Bucknell follows the next weekend as Hampton will face the hosts on September 20 and then take on Delaware State and Fairleigh Dickenson on September 21.
Big South Conference play will commence the following weekend as Hampton will host Campbell at 2 pm on September 28. The Lady Pirates are on the road for five of the seven dates in October visiting High Point (Oct. 4), Radford (Oct. 5), Presbyterian (Oct. 18), Charleston Southern (Oct. 19) and a rematch at Campbell (Oct. 26). Only a weekend with UNC Asheville and USC Upstate on October 11-12 will be inside Holland Hall.
November will see Hampton home for a pair of weekends entertaining Winthrop and Gardner-Webb on November 1-2, before Radford and High Point come on November 8-9. The regular season will close on November 15-16 as Hampton visits USC Upstate and UNC Asheville.
