Box Score 2 PRINCESS ANNE, MD- Hampton University's Volleyball team, goes 2-0 at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, clinching their first wins of the 2022 season in a pair of matches against UMES on Friday night and Manhattan College on Saturday morning.
"These were important wins for the Lady Pirates and their first wins of the season," said head coach Sonja Maksimovac. "The offense was so dominating, but the biggest game changer was our team's chemistry and effort."

The Pirates clinched their first win of the season with a 3-1 decision over UMES.
Leaderboard: Clara Smith led the Pirates in kills with 14. Setter
Julieta Campana ended the match with 29 assists.
How It Happened
Set 1: UMES struck first to get on the scoreboard, but Hampton answered back with a kill from
Gabby Calloway after a UMES service error taking a 2-1 lead. The Pirates never looked back and led the Hawks for the remainder of the set to secure the win 25-20.
Set 2: The second set was a battle, but the Pirates managed to pull away and finish strong, scoring eight unanswered points for the 25-15 win.
Set 3: Consecutive attack errors ailed UMES as Hampton got off to a 3-0 start, but the Hawks made adjustments and took the lead. The set endured four ties near through the midway point after a service ace from
Gabby Calloway tied the set 11-all. The Pirates dropped the set 25-18.
Set 4: Hampton quickly bounced back and was able to control the third set, but the Hawks did not make it easy. Service errors ailed the Hawks down the stretch, while a final kill from Campana pushed the Pirates to a win.

Score: 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-11)
Hampton coasted to a 3-0 sweep of Manhattan College bright and early Saturday morning at UMES.
Leaderboard: Clara Smith led the Pirates in kills with 11.
Julieta Campana paced the Pirates with 24 assists,
Leanna Caldwell recorded 13 assists, and
Gabby Calloway finished with seven kills, 10 digs.
Set 1: The Pirates struggled early, while Manhattan College went on a 5-0 run to start the match. Hampton quickly regrouped and was able to tie score at 7-all with a kill from
Julieta Campana. Despite the slow start, HU managed to outscore the Jaspers 18-7 to clinch the set 25-12.
Set 2: The tables turned in the second set as the Pirates got off to a 6-0 run with kills from a trio of Pirates. The second set was a complete team effort by the Pirates as Manhattan College experienced a handful of miscues. Hampton's best hit 0.429 in the set, which was the Pirates best Percentage of the day.
Set 3: Hampton continued to dominate the Jaspers with an 8-0 start to the final set, highlighted by three kills from Smith. Hampton made some costly mistakes in the final set but stayed in control of the game from start to finish. A service ace from
Rickelle Wescott secured the match with a 25-11 finish.
NEXT UP: The Pirates will head to Norfolk State to take on the Spartans at 6 PM on Wednesday, September 7.
