NCAA APR RATES FIND ALL HAMPTON SPORTS IN GOOD STANDING

HAMPTON, VA … Hampton's athletic teams all posted scores in excess of 931, according to the NCAA's latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) Institutional Report. Three teams achieved scores at or higher than the national average.

"The hard work of our student-athletes in the classroom and of our athletics academic advising staff who support them every day is reflective of the success shown in our APR numbers," Director of Athletics Anthony Henderson Sr. said. "Hampton has always been the 'Standard of Excellence' and we will continue to place emphasis on the academic success of our student-athletes." The APR tracks each team's academic success by following the academic progress of each student-athlete during the academic year. The APR considers eligibility, retention and graduation in the computation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

Normally, teams must meet a specific academic threshold to qualify for the postseason, and programs also can face penalties for continued low academic performance and a four-year APR score of 930 is required by the NCAA to compete in the postseason. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, no penalties will be assessed this year.

Hampton's APR of 955 in 2021-22 ranks third among the 21 FCS HBCUs trailing only Howard (962) and Norfolk State (957).   The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on annual scores from the 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years.
