LYNCHBURG, Va. (Jan. 19, 2024) – The Hampton University track and field athletes finished competition at the Brant Tolsma Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Junior Anissa Bernard, sophomores Emmani Shaw and Carson Moore, and freshmen Nina Pitt and Danielle James competed in the women's pentathlon. Floyd Tucker participated in the men's heptathlon.
Pentathlon
Emmani Shaw placed 4th in the pentathlon, finishing with a total of 3,326 points. She achieved career-highs in both the 60m hurdles (5th, 9.07) and then the high jump in which she grabbed 1st (1.76m). Anissa Bernard crossed the finish line first in the 60m hurdles (8.81) and ended the day in 13th (2,827 points).
"I think the athletes that participated in the Pentathlon and Heptathlon this weekend put forth a great effort and competed hard," said Coach Smalls. "The multi-events are not easy and take a lot of mental fortitude. Emmani Shaw finished fourth in her first ever pentathlon and set two personal bests. We look forward to what she can do as she gets more experience in the event."
Danielle James ended the day in 17th (2,687 points), followed by Carson Moore in 23nd (2,438) and Nina Pitt in 25th (2,388).
Heptathlon
Sophomore Floyd Tucker finished 8th overall in the heptathlon with 4,069 points. In the pole vault, Tucker tied for 3rd at 4.25m. He earned 4th in the 60m with a time of 7.37.
