Hampton’s Peninah Mutisya Finishes First at Pirate Cross Country Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. (Oct 4, 2024) … Hampton University cross country teams competed this morning at the Pirate Cross Country Invitational hosted by East Carolina. While the women's team only entered two Atheltis Peninah Mutisya finished first out of the 203 student-athlete field. Mohammed Al-Yafee had the best finish on the men's team placing 107th in the 175-plus-man field.
Along with Al-Yafee, Ibrahim Abdalla, Nellie Ambriton, Xaiver Jemison, and Khalid Hamid all competed for the Pirates this afternoon. Al-Yafee ran the eight-kilometer race with a time of 26:01.9. Ambriton crossed the finish line with a time of 27:38.7 and teammate Khalid Hamid was close behind running a 28:36.7
On the women's side, Mutisya and Jordan Mozie both finished inside the top 50. Earlier in the season, Mutisya won the CNU Invitational. The freshman from Kitui, Kenya crushed her time from the CNU meet finishing with a 20:54.4 at the Pirate Cross Country Invitational. Mozie's time of 22:57.6 was a season-best.
The Pirates men's cross-country team returns to action on Oct. 11 at the Lancer Pink Invitational.
