Hampton Pirates Finish 12th at MAISA Conference Championship

BRONX, N.Y. (April 21, 2024) … Hampton University sailing team finished 12th at the MAISA Conference Championship the America Trophy. The Field consisted of 18 teams and was hosted by New York Maritime College.Â
During the first day of the regatta, racing would be postponed twice due to the light breeze stopping. Finally, the predicted winds filled in at 10-15knts allowing the race to continue. After the first day of competition, the Pirates were tied with New York Maritime in ninth place. Hampton's best finish of the day came in the fifth race from the Pirates A division.Â
On day two of the regatta Coach Alessandro Ambrosi's squad had two top-five finishes. However, New York Maritime, Cornell, and Old Dominion all passed the Pirates in standings. With the Pirates competing in a strong conference, Hampton still has a chance to make nationals. The field for nationals will be announced on April 30th at 7:00 p.m.
