HAMPTON, Va. (Aug. 22, 2024) … Hampton University men's basketball coach Ivan Thomas has announced the 2024 non-conference schedule. The 12-game slate features two opponents who made last season's NCAA Tournament.  

Coach Ivan Thomas's first game leading the Pirates will be at home against Mid-Atlantic Christian on Nov. 4. Hampton has faced the Mustangs five times since the 2017-18 season. The matchup has been favorable to HU going 5-0 while averaging over 100 points per contest. 

The Pirate's first road trip of the season will begin against George Washington on Friday, Nov. 8. Hamptons will face the Revolutionaries for the first time since the 2020-21 season. The series has been competitive in recent years, with the last two contests being decided by 10 or fewer points. HU's two-game road trip closes out against Big East foe Providence (Nov. 12). Hampton has never faced the Friars prior to this season's matchup. Providence will also mark the Pirate's first game against a Big East opponent since the 2017-18 season.

Hampton returns home to face longtime rival Norfolk State on Nov. 16. The Pirates have not faced the Spartans inside the convocation center since the 2021-22 campaign. Before heading to the Cayman Islands Classic, HU will face UMBC on the road (Nov. 19th). Coach Thomas kicks off the classic on Nov. 24th facing Boise State at 11:00 a.m. The Broncos have made the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons along with finishing 23rd in the final AP Poll once. Hampton will either face Duquense or South Dakota State in the next round of the tournament (Nov. 25).  Coach Thomas will close out the Cayman Islands Classic on Nov. 26. Depending on how the bracket falls, HU could face Boston College, High Point, Missouri State, or Old Dominion. 

The Pirates begin the month of December with two consecutive home contests. HU's home stint begins on Dec. 10 against Apprentice School. Hampton closes out the two-game home stint against Regent (Dec. 18). The Pirates hit the road one final time before conference play facing Loyola (Md.) (Dec. 21). Hampton faces Howard on Saturday, Dec. 28. The series returns to the Convocation Center for the first time since the 2022-23 season and will be televised on CBS as the game is apart of the CBS Sports Classic: HBCU Classic.
