HAMPTON, Va. (Dec. 1, 2025) … Elijah Kennedy (20) and Aidan Haskins (16) each scored career highs and Hampton (4-5) dominated inside play with 60 points in the paint enroute to a 94-58 triumph over crosstown rival Apprentice School (3-4) at the Convocation Center.

"It was a team effort tonight. We had good balance and were able to get a lot of guys some playing time," Coach Ivan Thomas said. "We minimized our mistakes and had just nine turnovers. There are still some things we need to clean up but I'm proud of our effort tonight."

The teams traded baskets to start the game before Hampton reeled off nine straight points to lead 11-2 following a Kennedy three-pointer. The Builders countered with a barrage of treys with three in the span of just four minutes to close the gap to 21-17 with 13:51 remaining in the first half.

But a 10-0 Pirate run advanced the margin to 31-17 on a Quintin Cooper lay-up with 7:16 to go. Leading 36-21, Hampton went on another run. This time the Pirates tallied 11 consecutive points highlighted by an acrobatic slam by Kennedy with an assist for Etienne Strothers.

The Pirates held a 47-25 lead at intermission while shooting 48.8 percent from the field while dominating the boards 26-16. Nine different players scored for the Pirates in the opening stanza scoring 30 of Hampton's 47 points in the paint.

Coach Ivan Thomas's team scored the first 11 points of the second half to lead 58-25. Hampton's lead grew to 39, 66-27, on a basket by Haskins with 15:31 remaining.

Kennedy shot 9-of-12 from the field and Haskins canned four treys in the contest to lead the way for the Pirates. In all, five Pirates scored double figures including Cooper (14), Daniel Johnson (11) and Strothers (10). Strothers also had five steals.

Hampton matched its largest lead with 5:14 to go on a basket by Haskins to boost the lead to 39, 88-49. The Apprentice School outscored the Pirates 9-6 in the final five minutes. The Builders were led by Jabari Brackett and Devon Brown, who each scored 16 points.

Hampton rested starters Xavier Long, Josh Ogundele and Michael Eley.

Hampton hosts Loyola (Md.) on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. when the Pirates celebrate Holiday Office Party/757 Community Night at the Convocation Center. Hampton will then take a 10-day break in preparation for final exams.
