Maurice Pierce Named USATF Men's Head Coach For World Athletics Indoor Championships

HAMPTON, Va. (March 4, 2025) …Hampton University head track and field coach Maurice Pierce was named the head men's coach for the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Track and Field Championships held March 21-23 in Nanjing, China. He will also be working with the sprints and hurdle participants.

"It's always an honor to represent your country around the world and I am so appreciative of USA Track and Field for selecting me to the staff," Pierce said. "I look forward to working with the top athletes in the country at the championships."

This marks the sixth time in his coaching career that Pierce will be coaching on the international stage, and the third time as head coach. He had served as head coach on the men's side twice previously with the North American Central American Caribbean Championships (NACAC) in 2014 and 2018. Pierce has also been an assistant coach at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) in 2011 and 2015.

He has been involved with USA Track and Field and the NCAA in a variety of committees. Pierce is currently on the Men's and Women's Rules Committee for the NCAA as well as the chairman for USA Track and Field Men's Hurdles Committee.

Pierce's Hampton University teams just finished their indoor track and field seasons last week as the women's team won the Coastal Athletic Association championship for the first time.
Joining him on the men's staff will be Dena Evans of Stanford with the distance runners, Lindsey Malone of Colorado with the jumps and multi-events and Travis Coleman of Ohio State with the throws.
