Women's Outdoor Track and Field Takes Second At CAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 15, 2025) … Behind five top-two finishes on Thursday, the Hampton University women's outdoor track and field team finished second in the 2025 CAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at N.C. A&T.

The Pirates amassed 122 points as Elon took the title with 147 points, while host N.C. A&T finished with 102.

Jordan Mozie captured the 800-meter title winning in 2:06.92, while teammate Kylee King ran a season-best 2:10.85 to take fifth to give Hampton a combined 14 points.

In the 100 hurdles, Hampton went 4-5-6 behind Zionn Rice (13.99), Carmen PenaSoto (14.01) and Dejah Grant (14.11) to combine for 12 Hampton points.

Brianna Charles put in seven points with a fourth-place showing in the 200 meters (24.13) and seventh in the 100 meters (11.69). Morgan Pruitt took sixth in the 400 meters, running 56.11 to combine for three points.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Hampton placed second and fifth, earning 12 points. PenaSoto took second with a personal best of 59.62, and Kayla Spencer placed sixth with 1:01.45.

In the field events, Danielle James was second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.46m (40-10.5) which is a personal best. Emmani Shaw was sixth in the high jump after a leap of 1.70m (5-7).

Rochele Solmon took third in the discus with a 47.16m toss (154-8) and fourth in the shot put with a throw of 14.94m (49-0.25) for a season best. Joining her in the discus was Damali Williams who was second after a throw of 50.69m (166-3) and Nya Harmon in the shot put with an eighth-place finish in 13.97m (45-10).

The relay teams put in a first and fourth-place showing behind a 4x400 grouping of Dejah Grant, Morgan Pruitt, Arriah Gilmer and Mozie winning in 3:37.72. In the 4x100, Kenidi Johnson, Charles, Pruitt and Caylie Jefferson took fourth in 45.88.

Hampton will next see action at the NCAA East Regionals from May 28-31 in Jacksonville, Florida.
