Makalynne Dyer Named Head Men's and Women's Sailing Coach

HAMPTON, Va. (August 21, 2025) … Hampton University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Anthony D. Henderson Sr. announced on Thursday the hiring of Makalynne Dyer as the new head sailing coach.

Dyer joins the Pirates family after a year at Connecticut College where she served as an assistant coach and then interim head coach.

A native of Fort Collins, Colorado, Dyer has ties to the 757 as she graduated from Old Dominion where she was on the sailing team from 2017-21 and served as team captain. During that time she also interned in the Sports Performance department.

Upon graduation she served as an assistant sailing coach and assistant strength and conditioning coach at Christopher Newport and as an assistant coach at Norfolk Academy.

"I am excited to be joining Hampton University this season," Dyer said. "It feels great to be back in the Hampton Roads area, and I look forward to leading and growing the team. Go Pirates!"
