ORLANDO, Fla. (Mar. 8, 2026) … The Hampton University women's tennis team won the Battle of the Real HU Tuesday morning with a 6-1 defeat of Howard. 

The Pirates won the first point of the match after winning the doubles point. Samira Khazieva and Chelsea Chakanuka won in the two spot with a 6-4 victory, and Serena Bryan and Melis Sakiroglu earned a win in the three spot 6-0. 

Bryan (7-5, 6-2), Chakanuka (6-4, 6-0) and Khazieva (6-2, 6-1) each won their match in straight sets, while Toffee Ghorab (5-7, 6-0, 10-4)and Sakiroglu (7-5, 5-7, 10-6)were forced to go three sets to earn wins, while Bryan's win clinching the match for Hampton. 

Bryan, Ghorab, Chakanuka, and Khazieva have each won all three singles matches this week for the Pirates, while Melis has posted a 2-1 record.
