RICHMOND, Va. (April 3, 2026) … The Coastal Athletic Association announced its 2025-26 Indoor Track and Field awards on Friday and the Hampton University women's team came away with a pair of honors. Senior
Brianna Charles was named Track Athlete of the Year, while freshman
Nyla Felton was named Rookie of the Year.
This marks the second year in a row that Hampton came out with a pair of honorees as head coach
Maurice Pierce and distance runner
Peninah Mutisya earned awards last season.
Charles, from Guyanna, accounted for 21.5 points in the CAA Indoor Championship by winning the 60 meters, 200 meters and was part of the third-place 4x400 relay team. On the year she finished in the top two in seven of eight individual races. She won the 60-200 double at the Penn Classic and CAA Indoor Championships.
Felton, from North Plainfield, N.J., had a stellar inaugural season in the 200 and 400 meters. She took second in the 400 (55.14) at the CAA Indoor Championships and fourth in the 200 (24.14) in season best times while also being part of the third-place 4x400 relay team. She won the 400 meters at the VCU Invitational in her first collegiate individual race.
