Mutisya Takes First Place As Women's Cross Country Finishes Seventh In Spider Alumni Open

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. (Sept. 5, 2026)… Sophomore Peninah Mutisya took top honors covering the 4k course at Pole Green Park in 13:55.4 as the Hampton University women's cross country team finished seventh out of 16 teams in the Spider Alumni Open Saturday morning.
Mutisya, who took second in the race in 2024 and returning after missing the 2025 season due to injury, outdistanced Molly Weithman of William & Mary who was second in 14:00.4. The win for Mutisya was her third in her career.
William & Mary won the race amassing 56 points, followed by Georgetown (71), Richmond (73), James Madison (108), American (122), Christopher Newport (173) and Hampton with 196 points.
Avah Savage pulled a top 15 finish coming in 14th in 14:52.4, while Shari Brown was 34th in 15:27.3. Other Hampton finishers included Angel Moultrie (102nd/17:55.7), Alannah Runge (104th/17:59.5) and Olayinka Yetunde (115th/18:52.8).
Hampton will next run in the CNU Invitational on September 18.
