Greensboro, N.C. - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced the 2006 All-MEAC Softball post-season honors during the annual pre-tournament banquet Thursday night at the Stallings Ballroom on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University . Hampton University junior Maggie Wolfe was named the 2006 MEAC Player of the Year, as voted by the leagues Head Softball Coaches and Sports Information Directors. Florida A&M Coach Veronica Wiggins was named Coach of the Year and the Lady Rattlers’ Tiffany Johnson earned Rookie of the Year honors.
Wolfe led the MEAC with a .424 batting average. She also led the MEAC in six other categories including homeruns (15), runs batted in (52) slugging percentage (.829), and runs scored (47),. This season, the All- MEAC third baseman recorded 19 career home runs and moved into first place on Hampton ’s all-time homerun list surpassing the previous record of 17 held by Sharri Mapp (1999-2002). This is the third time that Wolfe has earned All-MEAC honors. She was previously named to the All-MEAC first team (2004) and second-team (2005).
Joining Wolfe on the All-MEAC First Team were fellow Lady Pirates Camille Whittaker and freshman outfielder Tesara Liggins. Junior catcher Jennifer Gonzales was also a second team selection.
