RALEIGH, N.C. – The Hampton University track teams competed this weekend in the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University and came away with several top finishes in the 100-school event.
Leading the charge was the men's sprint medley relay team that won first place in a time of 3:23.11. Jerrick Powell, Jaelen Williams, Justin Beatty and Stanley Davis combined to pull away from Michigan State to win the race.
The men's 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams took third place in their races. On the 4x400, Williams, Powell, Brett Reckling and Khalil Gary ran a 3:16.04. For the 4x800, the group of Tayvon Burris, Geoffrey McCullough, Beatty and Davis combined for a 7:36.82.
On the women's side, the sprint medley relay teams took fourth and fifth in their event as Kyle McMillan, Sashana Hinds, Sydney Davis and Pollyanna Velasco ran a 4:13.33 to take fourth. The group of Mallory Pitchford, Erin Morrison, Jaelen Leonard and Alysha Evans ran a 4:14.62 to finish fifth.
Also coming in fifth was the women's 4x100 relay team consisting of Tiara Robinson, Pitchford, Saenea Williams and Meshala Morton ran 46.64 to finish fifth.
Individually, Trey Clark was the lone place-winner taking third in the pole valut with a leap of 4.27 meters.
Hampton will next participate in the Colonial Relays starting March 30 in Williamsburg.
