PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Hampton University track teams competed in the historic Penn Relays held at Franklin Field and had some strong times in the three-day meet.
The men's 4x100 group of Brenan Garrett,
Jerrick Powell,
Trey Clark and
Joshua Hagins took third in the IC4A relay in 41.34. They rank a 41.57 on Friday to earn a spot in that event on Saturday.
In the men's 4x800, the Pirates finished fourth in 7:31.20 with
Tayvon Burris,
Geoffrey McCullough,
Eric Ellis and a blistering anchor leg from
Stanley Davis who ran the second fastest by an anchorman in 1:50.24.
The sprint medley relay team took fourth as well in the Championship of America Invitational running 3:21.11.
Joshua Hagins, Jaelen Wililams,
Gabriel Johnson and
Stanley Davis combined for the time that only trailed Penn State and Clemson from NCAA Division I and a Jamaican school.
The men's 4x400 finished ninth in the Championship of America Invitational running 3:10.47. Hampton's team consisted of Williams, Powell,
Justin Beatty and
Rayon Black.
Williams had the best individual finish for Hampton taking fourth in the 400 hurdles running 51.42.
For the women, the 4x200 team ran a 1:37.82 in qualifying which earned them a spot in the ECAC final where they took second to St. John's running 1:38.45. That group consisted of
Tiara Robinson,
Mallory Pitchford,
Meshala Morton and
Sashana Hinds.
Hampton will now head to Greensboro, NC starting on May 4 to participate in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships at North Carolina A&T State.
