SOFTBALL SWEEPS FINAL DAY OF HAMPTON CLASSIC

HAMPTON, Va, -- The Hampton softball team finished a 3-1 weekend in the Hampton Classic on Sunday with a pair of wins at the HU Softball Stadium.  Hampton (3-5) defeated Youngstown State 4-2 and Lafayette College 6-3.

Against Youngstown, Hampton pushed a run across in the first as DaSha Hill singled, stole second and scored one out later on a single by Cassidy Blackwell.  In the third, Lorena Alvarez opened with a double and moved to third on a single by Hill.  She scored on a groundout by Taylor Warrick and Hill scored on a groundout by Blackwell as Hampton took a 3-0 lead.

The Penguins pushed a run across in the fourth, but Hampton answered with one in its half of the inning as Morgan Crawford opened with a single.  Camille King, who pinch-ran for Crawford, stole second and scored on a double by Brianna Anderson for a 4-1 lead.  Youngstown State scratched another run in the top of the sixth for a 4-2 final.

Hill was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Crawford was 2-for-3 to lead Hampton at the plate.  Allie Hotetz earned the win throwing 5.2 innings and allowing four hits, while Allyson Babinsack picked up the save with 1.1 innings of one-hit ball.

Against Lafayette, Babinsack went seven innings and allowed seven hits with three unearned runs in a 6-3 Hampton win. 

The Lady Pirates put up a six spot in the second inning highlighted by two-run singles from Alvarez and Blackwell.  Lafayette pushed a run across in the third and two in the seventh before a groundout ended the game. ????Daniella Milloy and Blackwell were 2-for-3 each to lead Hampton at the plate.

Hampton returns to action on Wednesday in Chapel Hill, NC to face North Carolina
