TAMPA, Fla. – In day one of the 2018 NCAA East Regionals held at the University of South Florida, Hampton had two advance to quarterfinal rounds on Friday.

Sophomore
Jaelen Williams ran a personal best 49.97 in the 400 hurdles to have the second best time heading into Friday's 2:30 pm quarterfinals. He only trailed Kenny Selmon from North Carolina (48.98) heading into Friday's races.Â

Williams runs in the third heat on Friday and has to finish in the top three in his heat or have one of the next three best times to earn his spot in Eugene, Oregon at the NCAA Championships.

Junior
Tayvon Burris also advanced to the quarterfinals in the 800 meter run after a personal best 1:49.02 on Thursday.  His time was one of the next six best times as he finished fourth in his qualifying heat. Burris enjoys running in Florida as his previous season best was at the Florida Relays in late March running 1:49.99.

Burris runs in the second heat in Friday's 2pm quarterfinals and has to finish in the top three in his heat or have one of the next three best times to earn his spot in Eugene, Oregon at the NCAA Championships.

Also competing on Thursday but not advancing was
Stanley Davis in the 400 hurdles (54.38) and
Autumn Smith in the women's 400 hurdles (1:00.58).Â
Jaelen Leonard was competing in the long jump when a weather delay hit Tampa Thursday night.
