Terry Beauford

After spending the past two years as the head coach at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Terry Beauford returns to Hampton University for his seventh year with the Pirate coaching staff where he’ll resume his duties as offensive line coach.

In his last campaign with the Pirates Beauford directed an offensive line that paved the way for Hampton to average a league-best 31.9 points and nearly 370 yards of total offense per game. With his unit leading the way, freshman running back Alonzo Coleman became the first Pirate rookie to rush for more than 1,000 yards. In addition, Beauford produced three all-conference linemen, along with three consecutive MEAC Offensive Linemen of the Year in Erik Steiner, Patrick Cheatham and Jelani Clement. In just five seasons at Hampton the total number of All-MEAC linemen he’s coached has reached eight, along with four SBN All-Americans and two American Football Coaches Association All-Americans and one Associated Press All-American.

During the 2000 campaign, his first season with the Pirates, Beauford’s offensive line led the way for a record-setting year by former Hampton running back Montrell Coley. Behind the performance of Beauford’s front five, Coley rushed for more than 1,500 yards to become Hampton’s all-time leading rusher while also scoring 28 touchdowns on the season. Since 2001 when Beauford took over as the special teams coordinator the Pirates have become one of the most dangerous return units in college football. They led the nation in kickoff returns in 2001 and punt returns in 2002, totaling an astonishing 13 touchdowns on returns during his two-year stint as coordinator.

A native of Fort Pierce, FL where he attended Fort Pierce Central High School, Beauford earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, with a minor in physical education from Florida A&M University in 1991. As an offensive lineman for the Rattlers he was a two-time SBN All-American, NCAA 1AA All-America and a three-time First Team All-MEAC selection, leading the San Diego Chargers to choose him in the seventh round of the 1991 NFL draft.

After spending two seasons with the Chargers Beauford went on to play with the Green Bay Packers in 1993. Following his playing days in the NFL, he went on to play in Canada with the Shreveport Pirates and in the Arena Football League with the Tampa Bay Storm.

At the conclusion of his playing days Beauford spent two years (1998-99) at Lane College where he served as the assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and assistant athletic director.

He is married to Yulonda Darden-Beauford and is the proud father of one daughter, Tierra Brianna (17).
