Jackie Sernek is entering her first season as an assistant coach with the Hampton University softball program, joining the staff along with first-year head coach Angela Nicholson.
Â
Most recently, Sernek served as a graduate assistant during the 2016 season under Nicholson at Eastern Illinois. She was primarily the pitching coach there, working with First Team All-OVC honoree and four-time OVC Pitcher of the Week Jess Wireman.
Â
Prior to that, Sernek was an intern with the Eastern Illinois program.
Â
Prior to her time at Eastern Illinois, Sernek was an assistant coach at Lake Land Junior College in Mattoon, Ill. Primarily a first base coach, Sernek also supervised pitching, hitting, and fielding drills – and she implemented strength and conditioning programs for the team.
Â
In 2015, Lake Land went 53-10 overall and had a perfect 18-0 mark in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference. The team was also runner-up in NJCAA regionals.
Â
Throughout her coaching career, Sernek has also served as head coach of Premier Fastpitch Girls Club Softball, based in Gays, Ill. On top of evaluating player talent, she conducted private instruction with youth, high school, and college players, and she assisted players who were recruited by college programs.
Â
Sernek is a 2014 graduate of Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology. She then earned a Masters of Science in Kinesiology and Sport Studies, emphasis on Sports Administration, from Eastern Illinois, this past May.
Â
She was team captain as a junior at Cornell, and she was named Midwest Conference South Division Co-Pitcher of the Year. That season, she helped Cornell win the Midwest Conference Tournament and qualify for the NCAA Div. III Tournament.
Â
As a senior, Sernek and named Cornell Sportswoman of the Year, First Team All-Midwest Conference South Division, and Midwest Conference All-Academic.
