WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Hampton University volleyball team will be in the nation's capital this weekend, competing in the Georgetown Classic against three other teams from the Mid-Atlantic area on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Pirates (2-4), who have lost four straight matches, will open play against the University of Maryland on Friday at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Hampton will take on tournament host Georgetown at 1 p.m., followed at 5 p.m. by a match against William & Mary.
Junior Aaryn Harrison (Cary, N.C.) leads the Lady Pirates with 49 kills on the season, averaging 2.45 a set. Brittany Wynne, who has 47 kills on the season, leads the team (and sits 10th in the MEAC) with a 2.61 kill-per-set average. Harrison is ninth in the MEAC, averaging 3.15 points a set, while Wynne (Sacramento, Calif.) sits 10th in the conference at 3.03 points per set.
Lina Cordoba (Bogota , Columbia), with 30 kills and just six errors in 68 chances, leads the team with a .353 hitting percentage. She also leads the Lady Pirates with 10 service aces, while Harrison and Lihi Elkayam (Misgav, Israel) each have eight.
Adriana Vazquez (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico) has seven service aces to go along with her 29 kills.
Elkayam has 120 of Hampton's 174 assists on the season for an average of 7.50 per set – the sixth-best average in the MEAC. Ivana Suput (Zitiste, Serbia) leads the team with 92 digs on defense, leading the MEAC at a clip of 4.60 digs per set.
